We wanted to create this page to clear up any confusion about how we create the content of this website, what our relationships are with the manufacturers in the industry, etc.  We believe in transparency, and we want to use this page to be as transparent as possible with all aspects of our website.  We are also disclosing this information in an effort to be in accordance with the FTC’s “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising“. 16 CFR, Part 255

Receiving Free Sample Products

In some cases for our reviews, we received the product for free in exchange for our honest review (in some cases, where noted specifically, we may just provide a summary of the findings of customers elsewhere).  We proudly accept cat food, cat litter, and other samples from manufacturers and brands as it gives us the ability to write a first hand account of an actual experience with the product.  Our receipt of these products in no way ensures an improved or inflated rating, score or grade as our reviews are based on the merits of the product. The content of our reviews is our best attempt to provide an unbiased and accurate portrayal of each product we receive.  Below is a list of products we have received for free:

  • Smalls for Smalls Cat Food
  • NomNom Cat Food
  • Litter Robot III Automatic Litter Box
  • JustFoodForDogs

Affiliate Links

In some cases on our reviews you may find “affiliate links.”  Essentially what that means is that if you click the link and make a purchase, we will receive a commission.  This comes at no cost to you whatsoever.  It simply means that the origin of the sale is tracked back to our website.  We may also provide a coupon for a product that is used to track the source of a sale, for which we are then compensated.

Not all companies pay a commission, so in an effort to provide full transparency for those reading the reviews, below we disclose the list of companies with whom we have a direct affiliate relationship (either through direct link or coupons we provide).  These products/companies are:

  • Litter Robot
  • Smalls for Smalls Cat Food
  • JustFoodForDogs

We may also may link to general e-commerce sites where we receive an affiliate commission, though we have no direct relationship with the company that manufactures the product (eg we link to the particular cat food via Amazon.com and receive a commission, though this is purely a relationship with Amazon, and not a relationship with that pet company).  These other, general e-commerce sites include:

Chewy.com
Amazon.com
PetSmart.com

We do not allow sponsored content on our website.  Our team of professional writers and industry experts create all the articles on KittyCatter and we do not allow any outside party to provide content on our website.

Our Philosophy

We created this website with a few goals.  First, most consumers get very confused when trying to choose the best products for their cats.  Next, choosing products for animals who cannot voice their opinion means that there is a need for expert insight.  Lastly, there is a lot of marketing hype and poorly researched content in the industry that can lead a lot of people away from making a good choice.

With that in mind, we just wanted to provide information that attempts to simplify the process for you.  We try to break down what the key parts of each product and offer an educated view of whether it suits specific cats in any given situation.  Opinions on the site are our own, and should be treated as opinions, not final verdicts.  Generally we try to avoid making statements like, “this is the best cat food,” though you will see ratings for the products, sometimes broken down by category (eg best cat litter for kittens) to simplify the search process.  Again these are subjective scores and rankings which reflect our own opinions and personal biases, or that of professionals in the industry with whom we’ve consulted.  That is because finding a “best” cat product depends on many different factors, like the age, health, and personal preferences of your cat.

We encourage you to use the information on the site as a starting point for your own selection process and insist that you consult with a veterinary professional for the final say on the best course of action for your specific feline friend.
